The agenda for the Symposium was developed through six webinars held in June 2021 and six thematic papers published in October 2021 providing critical examination of the roles of governance, partnerships and technology.
Multi-stakeholder cooperation between the Indonesian Government, governments of other countries, local and international non-government organisations (NGOs), academics, the private sector and the community is necessary to build resilience in facing disasters.
Measuring the level of regional resilience is an integration of risk assessment and regional readiness status to face various disaster threats. In the national disaster management system, the risk assessment stage is the responsibility of the National and Subnational Governments to produce informed planning towards the development of a Golden Indonesia 2045.
Through one of the partners for PULIH BERSAMA, Konsorsium Swara Parangpuan, SIAP SIAGA assists local small business owners in Kupang to explore alternative viable business areas to the culinary industry most of them are currently working in. In September 2022, a Handicraft Workshop was held for three villages in the Kupang Regency.
The Roadmap for Gender Mainstreaming in BNPB is designed with regard to gender-based development priorities and an integral part of the implementation of the gender mainstreaming program, as it will be used as a directive guideline for all elements of BNPB organization.
This year, BNPB aims to highlight that disaster preparedness needs to be built from the smallest units within the community, preparing the community to face threats, determining the size of the risks, and the impacts of disasters that might occur. This will be combined with further emphasis on increasing community awareness that disaster mitigation efforts are a shared responsibility.
BNPB Secretary General Lilik Kurniawan said, “The key findings of this report – Resilience is Local – are in line with the findings and perspectives of my institution and government.” He explained that work to increase and improve disaster management capacity at the national and sub-national levels has been carried out for the last 20 years. Nevertheless, referring to the findings presented in this report, he stated, “We still have much to do.”
The SIAP SIAGA program hosted a peer learning event to discuss why the development of DRAs in an inclusive and participatory manner is both strategic and sustainable. With more than 150 participants from across 14 provinces and national government institutions, the online event tried to unpack how and why this approach is important and to propose several policy recommendations.
