The book "Outcome Document of the 2nd Global Forum for Sustainable Resilience 2024," held in Jakarta on September 11-12, 2024, aims to enhance discussions on sustainable resilience in addressing climate change and disaster management.
Local actor involvement in disaster risk management is growing stronger with the commitment of the Government of Indonesia to the concept of Sustainable Resilience. Local actors living in areas prone to disaster possess the knowledge to enrich disaster risk management policy. Empowering them as the frontline in disaster management is a strategic step in disaster resilience, climate change adaptation and sustainable development.
Yogi elaborated that the PFB operates as a fund management scheme to collect, accumulate, and distribute special disaster funds. This proactive approach is designed to protect the APBN from disaster-related financial pressures by investing in fund accumulation and transferring risks through insurance mechanisms. The PFB’s funding sources may include international donors via grants and trust funds. “The PFB is one of the elements of PARB and is key to orchestrating the various instruments within the disaster funding ecosystem,” she stated.
This discussion is a step towards The Global Forum For Sustainable Resilience 2024 event, which will focus on sustainable resilience related to learning about 20 years of tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Some of the principles of sustainable resilience are one whole unity, a shared or common platform, and synergy between parties.
Global collaboration is important because currently, disaster risks are increasingly diverse on a wide scale, for example, the impact of climate change. In this regard, Lu'lu added that currently there is no single framework that can overcome disaster problems globally.
The "Outcome Document: Global Forum for Sustainable Resilience" from the March 2023 event in Jakarta outlines key discussions on integrating disaster risk reduction, climate change, and sustainable development. The forum, supported by international and national bodies, emphasised the need for resilient infrastructure, technology, and community engagement to enhance disaster preparedness and recovery.
