At the 7th Global Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) in 2022, President Joko Widodo offered four concepts of Sustainable Resilience as a solution to address systemic risks from various disasters and support sustainable development.
The four concepts are: first, strengthening an anticipatory, responsive, and adaptive culture and institutions of disaster preparedness; second, investing in science, technology, and innovation; third, building infrastructure that is resilient to disasters and climate change; and fourth, a joint commitment to implementing global agreements down to the local level.
This speech in Bali is an important milestone in mainstreaming Sustainable Resilience in disaster risk management policies, including coordination between institutions, capacity building, and community involvement.
