Celebrating the 2022 Disaster Preparedness Day in Klaten Central Java

This year, BNPB aims to highlight that disaster preparedness needs to be built from the smallest units within the community, preparing the community to face threats, determining the size of the risks, and the impacts of disasters that might occur. This will be combined with further emphasis on increasing community awareness that disaster mitigation efforts are a shared responsibility.

The theme for World Humanitarian Day this year is “It Takes a Village”, recognising that humanitarian action is a collective endeavour involving people from all walks of life. As the UN notes “whenever and wherever people are in need, there are others who help them. They are the affected people themselves – always first to respond when a disaster strikes – and a global community that supports them as they recover”.

Launching the Regional Report “Because Resilience is Local” at the 2022 GPDRR

BNPB Secretary General Lilik Kurniawan said, “The key findings of this report – Resilience is Local – are in line with the findings and perspectives of my institution and government.” He explained that work to increase and improve disaster management capacity at the national and sub-national levels has been carried out for the last 20 years. Nevertheless, referring to the findings presented in this report, he stated, “We still have much to do.”
