The CRT, whose design commenced in 2022, is a set of procedures packaged in a QGIS-software-based system that will be easily accessible through an app. The CRT has been created to promote sustainable resilience down to the village level.
The agenda for the Symposium was developed through six webinars held in June 2021 and six thematic papers published in October 2021 providing critical examination of the roles of governance, partnerships and technology.
The "Outcome Document: Global Forum for Sustainable Resilience" from the March 2023 event in Jakarta outlines key discussions on integrating disaster risk reduction, climate change, and sustainable development. The forum, supported by international and national bodies, emphasised the need for resilient infrastructure, technology, and community engagement to enhance disaster preparedness and recovery.
The theme for World Humanitarian Day this year is “It Takes a Village”, recognising that humanitarian action is a collective endeavour involving people from all walks of life. As the UN notes “whenever and wherever people are in need, there are others who help them. They are the affected people themselves – always first to respond when a disaster strikes – and a global community that supports them as they recover”.
BNPB Secretary General Lilik Kurniawan said, “The key findings of this report – Resilience is Local – are in line with the findings and perspectives of my institution and government.” He explained that work to increase and improve disaster management capacity at the national and sub-national levels has been carried out for the last 20 years. Nevertheless, referring to the findings presented in this report, he stated, “We still have much to do.”
“The pandemic is a historical moment. The only choice that we have is to collaborate and to build stronger partnerships – not always starting something new – but utilizing the existing skills and capacities in innovative ways.”
