The evolution of sustainable resilience in Indonesia reflects a paradigm shift from a reactive to a proactive approach in dealing with disasters. The establishment of a more systematic legal and policy framework, through key events and actions such as the passage of the Disaster Management Law in 2007 and the establishment of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), marks Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening disaster risk governance.
This Study Report was made possible by the participation of some 500 stakeholders from across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. They engaged in a series of 4 monthly seminars between May and August 2024, which culminated in the convening of the “2nd Global Forum for Sustainable Resilience” in September 2024. The Garda SIAGA Policy Bootcamp 2024 integrated disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation into policy frameworks through a cross-sectoral collaborative approach. This workshop engaged 26 participants from national and regional institutions.
