JawaDwipa Expedition

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), started documenting the history of the earthquake and tsunami through the JawaDwipa Expedition with support from SIAP SIAGA. This expedition also documented and assessed the resilience of villages in facing the tsunami disaster which was carried out in June – August 2019. This video summarises various findings regarding local knowledge, collective memory and also mitigation patterns found in East Java. This emphasises how we can then utilise all existing local knowledge to form a disaster mitigation strategy that is on the historical, social, and cultural conditions that grow and develop in society.
